Beautiful Nature

Omiš is located 25 km SE of Split and 35 km NW of Makarska. It is situated in the hearth of the Dalmatian coast. Omis is city of beautiful contrast. On one side there is crystal clear Adriatic sea, and in the other side Omis is located on the river Cetina, which carved glorious canyon through the high mountains that surrounds Omis.

City of Pirates

Omis is an old and ancient town. First traces of Omiš goes back to Greek period. Most prominent piece in the City Museum is portrait of the Roman Emperor Tiberius. In the Middle Ages Omis was ruled by the family Kacic. And during their rule Omis Pirates were the stongest. Notorious pirates, at the peak of its power (11th and 12th century) were controlling the whole maritime traffic on the Adriatic sea. Beautiful fortresses above the Omis remains from that period.
